Microbiologist

Julius Sombie holds a Master of Science degree in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from the Pan African University: Institute of Basic Sciences, Technology and Innovation, as well as from JKUAT in Juja, Kenya. He also earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from Babcock University in Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, Nigeria.

In 2016, Julius began his employment at the Sierra Leone Agricultural Research Institute, where he was assigned to the Teko Livestock Research Centre in the Animal Health Unit as a microbiologist. Throughout his tenure, he has received extensive training and has been actively involved in various areas, including livestock bacteriology, serology, molecular biology, and biobanking. His research focuses on significant animal health issues, such as Brucellosis, avian influenza, mastitis, Peste des Petits Ruminants, and antimicrobial resistance. Additionally, he has received training in biosafety and biosecurity.
